Project Overview:
The Green Quarter is located in the centre of Southall, 11 miles west of Central London and sits within the London Borough of Ealing. Berkeley’s development is one of the largest and most significant mixed-use residential schemes in London and will deliver some 3,750 new homes, along with landscaped parkland and community facilities. The project is expected to take 20 plus years to complete and includes 500,000 sq ft of commercial space, a new cinema, a two-form entry primary school, a health centre and a substantial amount of green outdoor space.
The Parkside Collection makes up phase 3 of the development. It is made up of 645 Apartments in 8 Buildings (2 buildings being affordable housing, 2 being shared ownership and 4 buildings are Private ownership) along with 6 Townhouses, each offering an unparalleled blend of modern design and natural surroundings. Located in a flourishing neighbourhood, these homes provide the luxury of having nature on your doorstep, yet still in close proximity to the city. Elegantly designed with spacious living areas, contemporary fittings, and modern appliances; The Parkside Collection allows ample space to live, work and relax.
EDC Scope of Works:
EDC is currently providing Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Design for Phase 3 of this development. The building services design ensures an internal environment that meets client requirements, with the building fabric and engineering systems working together to optimise energy efficiency.
The development features a well-insulated, airtight structure to minimise heat loss. A district heating network serves as the primary heating source, with variable-speed, inverter-driven LTHW circulation pumps ensuring efficient heat distribution. Apartments are equipped with thermostatically controlled underfloor heating, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Heat interface units (HIUs) in service cupboards generate domestic hot water using plate heat exchanger technology, delivering an instantaneous supply across a closed-loop district heating system. Communal areas feature ultra-low energy LED lighting with presence detectors, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, while a portion remains operational 24/7. Apartments include LED downlights and pendant fittings, all manually controlled. Solar PV systems on Buildings E & G provide a total of 95kWe of renewable energy, feeding into the Landlord Central Plant switchboard, further supporting sustainability goals.
