INSIGHT

This Christmas, we’re backing FoodCloud. Supporting communities while reducing food waste.

As the year draws to a close, we want to take a moment to sincerely thank our clients and partners for the trust, collaboration, and support shown to EDC throughout the year. Every project, conversation, and challenge shared has contributed to the progress we’ve made together.

This year, we are proud to support FoodCloud, an Irish non-profit (working across Ireland and the UK) founded in 2013 by Iseult Ward and Aoibheann O’Brien, built on a simple but powerful vision: no good food going to waste.

FoodCloud's Impact

FoodCloud tackles both climate change and food insecurity by connecting businesses with surplus food to community groups that can use it. Through innovative technology and a nationwide network of Hubs, they make it easier for retailers and charities to collaborate, ensuring good food reaches the people who need it most. Their work spans three key areas:

  • Food Redistribution Hubs operating across Ireland, partnering with all of Ireland’s leading food retailers.
  • FoodCloud Kitchen, launched in 2022, producing freshly prepared meals that are distributed to vulnerable individuals across the country.
  • Their technology platform, which links local charities across Ireland and the UK with retailers such as Tesco, Lidl, Musgrave, and Waitrose, enabling seamless, efficient collection and redistribution of food approaching its sell-by date.

At EDC, our purpose is driven by impact. Impact on the built environment, on sustainability, on innovation, and on the communities in which we live and work. FoodCloud embodies all of these values. Their approach brings people, technology, and community together to reduce waste and support those who need it most.

This year, we’re honoured to stand alongside FoodCloud and play a small part in helping their vital work reach even further.

Wishing our Clients, Partners, Followers and the entire Built Environment a Happy Christmas & New Year.
