Tower Hamlets Civic Centre

London

Project Overview:

Tower Hamlets Town Hall is now officially up and running as a civic centre and now consolidates local government services in once accessible location. From start to finish this BREEAM ‘Excellent’ building has been more than seven years in the making and has transformed the former 1700’s Royal London Hospital Complex. In addition to the complete refurbishment of the existing structure, a complementary new build extension provides six-storeys of open plan, flexible office space.

EDC Scope of Works:

EDC worked closely with Designer Group and the wider design team to deliver the BIM model from A10 at stage 4 into a stage 5 installation ready information model.

One of the main challenges was ensuring service co-ordination while ensuring ceiling heights were maintained as high as possible. Due to the volume of services required to fit in a compact 2.6m space we had to think outside the box when it same to co-ordinating the services such as changing aspect rations and resizing ducts throughout the corridors. In addition to this, the use of round as opposed to rectangular ducts into individual rooms with individual round holes for pipework and containment unique to each room has ensured the most efficient use of space and services.
