EDC Fast Facts 14: Evacuation Alert Systems.

Evacuation Alert Systems have been introduced in to meet the recommendations of the British Standard BS 8629:2019 regarding the implementation of manual evacuation systems for use by the Fire Brigade to order the evacuation of residents in apartment buildings.

The system comprises of a control and indicating panel which is typically located inside the main entrance of an apartment building in an obvious location. Alert sounders or sirens are installed within individual apartments throughout the apartment building and connected to the dedicated control and indicating panel. In the event of a fire, if deemed necessary by the Fire and Rescue Service, apartments can be evacuated, entire floors or the whole building through the indicating and control panel.
