From everyone at EDC we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We have always been a tech-forward company and 2019 saw our 3 offices pushing forward with new groundbreaking projects throughout our 3 offices in Cork, London and Dublin.
From The Collective, Canary Wharf which is due to be completed in 2018 to the work on the Chelsea Barracks in the historic and esteemed Chelsea Borough in London. In the last 12 months, we have helped design and renovate iconic buildings in Ireland, Europe and Africa. This year has seen us grow our team with 11 new appointments as well as achieving our ISO 19650 accreditation making us the first Lloyds Registered certified company in the UK and Ireland to achieve this.
This BIM Level 2 Accreditation represents an independent public statement of compliance with the ISO 19650 series of standards.
“Ultimately our aim is to constantly develop and improve the quality of service we provide to our clients. Adopting the ISO 19650 series of standards is another example of how EDC are proven leaders in the promotion of BIM and all the benefits this collaborative process brings to the construction industry.”
John McDonnell, Group BIM & Systems Director
We have seen great progress on our Cork projects, with the Green Light on planning for 2 transformative developments in Cork, with the 15-storey 5,574 sq m Prism development by the Tower Development Group along with the Green Light for the 165-bedroom hotel by Tetrarch Capital on Parnell Place.
In the UK we have continued to push boundaries of BIM, MEP and Energy Engineering. When the EDC London Office came across a space issue with the plantroom, the search for a solution led it to a new innovation – the Zeroth Energy System. Due to the benefits of this system this project has been selected by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as a case study for 2050 being zero carbon emission.
It has also been an exciting time as we expand into Africa, our 20-storey Famfa project which utilised our level 2 bespoke modelling BIM experience has now begun construction and will be completed in 2020.
Our London office continues to build on recent successes with the handover of the largest co-living development in the word – The Collective Canary Wharf. In addition to this, the London office successfully handed over in excess of 1500 completed residential units to our clients. A strong finish to the year with multiple large projects secured including Dace Road, Thornton Park, Henson Gibson and Chertsey Road with additional schemes pending for early 2020.
The residential, commercial and build-to-rent sectors remain strong with multiple projects secured in these sectors over the last 6 months.
Our Cork office continues the theme with another busy year including HG Horgan’s Quay taking shape. In addition to being the lead MEP designers for the public realm services, EDC has kicked off the detailed design for the residential element of this development which consists of 302 units. The Cork office has also been working on the Carrigohane Student Block which is currently under design and consists of 624 beds. We continue to secure numerous BIM modelling projects based on our proven track record in delivering successful BIM Level 2 projects on time and within the program.
Since its induction in 2016, our Dublin Office has continued growing to expand not only it’s staff numbers, but also the range of projects over the last 12 months. These include the successful delivery of MEP services for the Carechoice Swords development and the challenging Guinness Enterprise Centre.
Our people are our greatest asset, it is the team at EDC that has made it the success it is today. The way we work every day supports our company values: progressive; dynamic; collaborative; proactive and ambitious. We are happy to welcome 11 new hires in 2019.
