The Printworks is a major Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) development in London, bringing 315 student bedrooms across three buildings. The scheme combines new-build accommodation with the sensitive refurbishment of a Grade II listed building, creating a contemporary student environment while retaining an important piece of the site's architectural heritage.
For EDC, our involvement began with a detailed audit of the existing M&E design. From there, we developed a fully coordinated Stage 4 M&E design amendment, working closely with the wider design and construction team to resolve requirements and ensure the engineering strategy could be delivered effectively on site.
Our Energy & Sustainability team also played a key role, undertaking the project's BREEAM assessment, targeting Excellent, alongside reviewing and enhancing the energy strategy and completing an overheating assessment to support the planning resubmission.
The finished development will offer far more than student bedrooms. Communal workspaces, a gym, games rooms and shared kitchen and dining areas are designed to create places for students to study, socialise and connect, making the building a genuine community rather than simply a place to live.
Having recently marked the topping-out milestone, the project is now moving ever closer to completion. For EDC, The Printworks is a great example of how practical M&E design, energy performance and close project collaboration can come together to move a complex London development from design through to delivery.
